Amazona Hall

Entering from the Macaw walkway you first
encounter the colourful Giant Woodrail, the Currasow
      and the Piping Guan.

After the bridge, see if you can spot,
in the shadows of the overhanging vegetation,
                  the Red-tailed Catfish or
                         the Zungaro zungaro.

More easily seen is the shoal of
Giant Pacu, large vegetarian fish
       of the Piranha family.

Follow the path into the shadows,
where you will find the Iguanas, the
              Anaconda and the Boa.

Your visit to the Amazona Hall
               would not be complete without
watching the school of Red-bellied Piranha,
the feared carnivores of most South American
river systems. In fact these fish are quite
timid - until they sense a meal, then they
lose all fear and go into a gruesome
                feeding frenzy.
